NYC Restaurant Review - Telepan

Welcome back foodies! I just went to Bill Telepan's, Telepan. It was so spectacular. I went for Restaurant Week of course. The great thing about Restaurant Week at Telepan is that there is no tasting menu you order any dish on their regular menu for $35 dollars. It really is a great deal.

Telepan                            72 West 69 Street, New York, NY 10023

Telepan is a must go to restaurant. Everything is so delicious. Starting off with appetizers the House Smoked Trout is a definite favorite of mine along with the Lobster Bolognese. The bolognese had such great flavor and the lobster was amazing alone. I also liked the Fallen Polenta Souffle. The white corn hominy gave the dish a wonderful texture and the cornbread brown butter was to die for. Another two appetizers I liked were the Kobacha Squash Pierogi and the Ricotta Gnocchi. For entrees the Heritage Pork was outstanding. The sauerkraut was incredible and the pork was cooked to perfection. The potato pierogi that came wih the pork was delicious too. Besides the pork the Diver's Scallops was equally amazing. It was so sweet and the whole dish worked beautifully. My least favorite dish that was ordered was the Leg & Shoulder of Organic Lamb. it was good and the black kale it sat on was yummy and the lamb was cooked good but it just didn't have that wow factor that every other dish I had gave me. For dessert, don't even get me started. Everything was spectacular. It is too hard to pick a favorite so I am just going to tell you everything. To start, the Lemon Cake was impeccable. Super fresh and very moist. Next, the Apple-Cinnamon Profiterole. It was such a great combination and the caramel sauce on top just bound it all together wonderfully. Also the Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding was very good and the truffle with it was very good. Lastly, the Cookies and Confectionaries were delicious. I always look for a good cookie plate at at a restaurant and I can never found one. After my visit to Telepan I can't say that there is no restaurant I have been to who doesn't have a good cookie plate. The service was good and the decor was nice. I absolutely, positively recommend Telepan, highly.

  • Amazing food
  • Decor nice
  • Good Sevice

NYC Restaurant Review - 21 Club

Hey foodies! I just went to the 21 Club for dinner. We went for Restaurant Week. I thought it wasn't a stand-out but it was a good restaurant.

21 Club                             21 West 52nd Street, New York, New York 10019

The 21 Club was a good restaurant but didn't have any real stand-out feature to, that is according to the Restaurant Week  menu. I went with a group so we all tried each others dish. Almost every dish on the tasting menu was ordered. I personally thought that nothing on the menu was bad but you could have two completely different experiences. You could order good or you could order bad. In my opinion the best appetizer by far was the Grilled Calamari. It was so tender and had so many layers of texture from the chorizo to the fennel to those braised lima beans. It was all tossed together in a jalapeno dressing. MUST get it. Anyway the other appetizers, which I thought were okay were the Salmon Tartare and the Seasonal Soup. The Salmon Tartare I thought was good and fresh but it was very 2 - dimensional in my opinion. The Seasonal Soup was Manhattan Clam Chowder. I can't say not to get the soup since it changes daily but I just thought this sou was just okay. For entrees i thought everything was good, it just wasn't amazing. The Cauliflower Risotto was probably my favorite. My only problem was that I just wasn't a fan of the cauliflower in the risotto but I still  recommend getting the risotto. I also thought the Seared Chicken Breast was pretty good. It was seasoned well and the broccoli rabe that was with it was good. The Grilled Pork Belly had a very unique flavor. It wasn't out - standing but it was good. The home-made sauerkraut that came with it was delicious. My least-favorite dish which was still okay was the  Flax Seed-Crusted Salmon. It was nothing special. Salmon was cooked fine and it was sitting on beet and root vegetable faro and that was delicious. When it came to dessert nothing was great but they were good. The Rocky Road and Salty Caramel Bombe was the best out of them all. My next favorite was the lemon tart. The tart shell was just okay but the inside was good and the blueberry compote was delicious. My least favorite was the Creme Brulee with the ginger shortbread. The best part was the ginger short bread. It was really good. On the other hand the Creme Brulee just wasn't to good. The food was good not spectacular. Service was fair and the decor was a little strange but cool. The reason it was strange was that toys and football helmets were hanging from the ceiling but the dress code was jackets required. If the dress code wasn't so fancy the decor would make more sense. After the dinner we knew that there was a secret wine cellar and we asked if we could go see it. Someone took us down and it is this cement wall that has this thin, long key that you poke into this tiny pin hole and then you push the really heavy door. There is tons of wine and saved bottles from celebrities and presidents. Then if you go farther in there is a room where you could host a party. It was very cool. If you go definitely ask to see it. Anyway, I am not rushing back to the 21 Club but it was still a good restaurant.

  • Food was okay, nothing was bad though
  • Decor was interesting
  • Service was fair
  • Wine Cellar in the basement was cool, recommend asking to see it

That's all for today. Check back soon because I am going to Bill Telepan's, Telepan tonight. Can't wait! Bon Apetit.

More information about Restaurant Week will be on the Restaurant Week page.

Check back soon for more updates on the event calendar including the installment of the April, May, and June calendar but remember the calendar will be updated. A lot of more great cooking classes coming. Anyway, I am so excited for Restaurant Week. Make your reservations soon!

Foodie Finders NYC on the road to Las Vegas: Day 5

Hello foodies! Today I am going to tell you guys about my fifth and final day in Las Vegas. I am so glad to share more great restaurants. I also met Hubert Keller which was so cool.

For lunch the Foodie Finders NYC crew had to go back to Burger Bar because it was so good. While we were there I asked our waiter if Hubert Keller was in (even though I asked 3 days before at Fleur and they said he wasn't in, I gave it a shot), and the waiter said he was here about an hour ago and he just left. I was a little disappointed that we just missed him but then I said would he happen to be at Fleur (which was his restaurant too and minutes away in the same hotel). The waiter said you could try so I headed over there. I asked the host if Chef Keller was in and she said that she will go get him. I was very excited to meet him. Hubert came out and was very nice. We spoke outside and then gave us a tour of the kitchen. Hubert had recently changed his restaurant to a tapas, or small plate restaurant. I asked Hubert why he changed the restaurant and he said back when it was Fleur d' Lys people would sit at the bar and Hubert and his staff would make these little small dishes for them. Those small plates they had created caught on. None of these dishes were actually on the menu. People who were actually in the dining room and asked for the dishes that were served at the bar. The bar and the little lounge was packed all the time and Hubert felt it was logical to make his whole restaurant tapas. That is what he did and it closed back in September and reopened this past December. Anyway, we went into the kitchen and it was so organized and clean. There was a window in the kitchen and Hubert told us how he fought to have this window put in so some sunlight would come into the kitchen. Hubert was very enthusiastic and passionate about what he did which really showed. He showed us all these little gadgets and stories. If you go to Fleur and order the Maple Glazed Pork Ribs which are smoked to order, (which doesn't only taste good but the presentation is beautiful) the process is very cool. He showed us how he does it. He seemed very proud of his work which he should be. His passion for food showed very much but even if you don't get to meet him his passion will show through the food, trust me.

So afterwords, for dinner, we went to Wolfgang Puck's Spago which was delicious. Here is my review.

Spago     3500 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89109 (The Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace)

Spago is definitely one to consider when eating out in Las Vegas. The decor was very nice. There was "outdoor" seating if you consider the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace outside. The service was good too and the food was delicious. I enjoyed the bread that they served with their herb infused olive oil. The meatloaf I thought was good but way to salty and very heavy. On the other hand I did like the barbecue chicken pizza and the bolognese. I really recommend Spago.

  • Good service
  • Nice decor
  • Great Food

And that concludes my foodie vacation to Las Vegas. I hope you guys find this information useful. Remember New York City restaurant week is going now. More on that in my next post. Bon Apetit!

Foodie Finders NYC on the road to Las Vegas: Day 4

Welcome foodies! Today I am excited to tell you about my fourth day in Las Vegas. Again I had some wonderful food. The Foodie Finders NYC crew and I took a quick pit stop at Serendipity 3 which is also in New York but normally the line is really long in New York so Serendipity 3 was a must get to in Las Vegas. The thing that Serendipity 3 does better than anyone else is Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. I wrote a little review on it (but it isn't much because all we got was a couple of Frrrozen Hot Chocolates) which will go on the Specialty Food Review page.

Serendipity 3          3570 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89109 (Caesar's Palace)

If your passing by Caesar's, you can't pass up Serendipity 3's Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. It is so luscious and decadent and you feel so at home. And than it pulls one over on your taste buds because it is frozen. Hot chocolate is not supposed to be cold and like a slushy. You wait for a second while your brain files that Hot Chocolate can be frozen and than you suck down the whole thing. It is such a refreshing and interesting drink. You just have to go to Serendipity 3.

  • The best Frrrozen Hot Chocolate
  • This drink will leave you in awe

After Serendipity 3, the Foodie Finders NYC crew and I walked the strip for a little while and before you knew it, dinner time was here. We went to Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger's Border Grill. What an incredible place. One of my new favorite's when it comes to Mexican. Here is my review.

Border Grill     3950 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89119 (Mandalay Bay)

Great X10. Border Grill is just a flat out great restaurant. Great service, spectacular food, huge portions and they are reasonably priced (recommend sharing with someone). I enjoyed the decor as well. It all fit right but of course the star of the show was the food. The start off the chips and salsa is very good. Then, as you move on to appetizers the Guacamole was yummy and the Queso Fundido was so good. Also for appetizers the Guajillo Pork Tamales was scrumptious as well as the Green Corn Tamales. Moving on to the main dishes my two dishes I loved were the Negro Modelo Braised Short Ribs and the Yucatan Pork. My favorite had to be the Short Ribs though. It was cooked to perfection and it was on top of polenta. So good. For dessert, Border Grill does this genius thing, where on their menu you could just order a dessert or you can do a dessert assortment of your choice of either 2 half slices or 4 half slices. The dishes we got on the assortment of 4 half slices were all so delicious. They were the Mexican Chocolate Cream Pie, Tres Leches, Pineapple Upsidedown Cake, and the special that night which was Tres Leches again but filled with cooked down blueberries. My favorite had to be the special. I am definitely going back to Border Grill and I highly recommend it.

  • Great service
  • Nice decor
  • Delicous food
  • Large portions, really get your money's worth of it (recommend sharing with someone)
  • Recommend:
  1. Guacamole
  2. Queso Fundido
  3. Guajillo Pork Tamales
  4.   Green Corn Tamales
  5. Negro Modelo Braised Short Rib
  6.  Yucatan Pork
  7.  Mexican Chocolate Cream Pie
  8. Tres Leches
  9.  Pineapple Upsidedown Cake

Another great day of food, but at some point great food vacations have to come to end. My next post will be my last post on my food field trip to Las Vegas and we will be back to New York. Winter Restaurant Week started today and I have a ton of reservations all over the place. I will give you all more information two posts from now. Bon Apetit!

Foodie Finders NYC on the road to Las Vegas: Day 3

Hi foodies! Today I am going to share with all of you about my third day in Las Vegas. I went to some great restaurants and was fortunate to meet another great chef, Todd English. I am so excited to tell all of you about it.
On our third day in Las Vegas the Foodie Finders NYC crew and I went to Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill. We went for a quick brunch and it was delicious. Here is my review.

Mesa Grill           3570 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89109 (Caesars Palace)

Mesa Grill really serves a delicious brunch. I loved the whole restaurant. I liked the Brunch appetizer, which was a crispy bacon and hash brown quesadilla with a fried egg and tomato salsa. For Brunch entrees I had two favorites. One was the spicy chicken and sweet potato hash with a poached egg and a green chile hollandaise. My other favorite dish was the scrambled eggs chilaquiles with roasted tomatillo sauce, white cheddar cheese and creme fraiche. On the side we got mango bacon which was okay and we got grits that were good. The service was fine and I really love the whole southwestern cuisine. This restaurant is worth the visit.

  • Great food
  • Nice decor
  • Service was good, nothing special though
  • Recommend:
  1. Spicy Chicken and Sweet Potato Hash
  2. Scrambled Eggs Chilaquiles
  3. Crispy Bacon and Hash Brown Quesadilla

After Mesa Grill we were walking through City Center and I stopped in Todd English's P.U.B to look at the menu. I decided while I was there I asked if  Chef English was in town and they said yes. I was in shock and when the girl went to get him he was actually walking out of the restaurant. We spoke and he was so nice. It was so cool to meet Todd English. I have never been to one of his restaurants but I plan to soon in New York.
So I spoke with Todd English and than we walked around a little longer and it was already time for our reservations at Rick Moonen's RM Seafood. I had already met Rick, as I told you all, two days before we went to his restaurant. Anyway RM Seafood was so good. Here is my review.

RM Seafood            3930 Las Vegas Blvd South, Las Vegas, NV, 89119 (Mandalay Bay)

The best seafood ever! The sushi was out of this world and the seafood was so fresh. RM Seafood cannot be skipped when your in Las Vegas. My favorite dish was Rick’s Famous Fish 'N' Chips. I thought it was all just so good. The the potato wedges were delicious and the fish was cooked perfectly. I also did like the RM Style "Cioppino" which had calamarata, mussels, clams, king crab, and shrimp. Another good dish was Lobster Bolognese with bucatini, lobster oil, and shaved parmesan. Also I ordered the Top Chef Masters “Moon” Doggies which is shrimp corn dogs, cole slaw, and cilantro mayo. I thought they were okay. The service was good and the entire restaurant was beautiful. I really liked RM Seafood and would definetly come back.

  • Good Service
  • Beautiful Decor
  • Great Food
  • Recommend:
  1. Rick’s Famous Fish 'N' Chips
  2. RM Style "Cioppino"
  3. Lobster Bolognese

So that concludes the third day of my food field trip to Las Vegas. You may have noticed the survey that I said would be up in the last post, has been posted up. I had some issues but I finally have the survey up and running. Vote soon on your favorite competitive food show. The survey closes February 20th at 11:59 P.M. Also check back for my next post on my fourth day in Las Vegas!

Foodie Finders NYC on the road to Las Vegas: Day 2

Welcome back foodies! Today I am going to share with you my second day in Las Vegas. Again I had an awesome foodie day and I am so glad to tell you all about it. For lunch the Foodie Finders NYC Crew and I stopped off at Pink's Hot Dogs. They were spectacular. We knew we were going to have an amazing and very big meal at Fleur so we just had one to share between a few of us. I wouldn't completely call Pink's a restaurant so I have decided to add a new page to the blog, Specialty Food Reviews. Places like chocolatier's, bakery's, and other specialty food destinations will be reviewed on this page. I hope you enjoy and here is my review on Pink's Hot Dogs.

Pink's Hot Dogs           3667 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV, 89109 (Planet Hollywood)

The most amazing hot dog you will ever have. At Pink's Hot Dogs even if you forget about all the great toppings, the hot dog itself is just so delicious. It makes my mouth water just to think about it. I ordered a chili and cheese dog. It was really delicious and the chili was very good. It was a little messy but I love that about a chili dog when you pick it up and the chili just comes out the sides and peeks over the top. Pink's Hot Dogs is must go to if you are in Las Vegas.

  • Location is very convenient since it is right on the strip and you don't have to walk a mile through a gigantic hotel
  • Amazing hot dogs
  • Recommend:
  1. Chili Cheese Dog

After Pink's we headed over to the Cosmopolitan to look at the hotel and check out some of the restaurants. One of the restaurants in the Cosmopolitan is Scarpetta which is owned by Scott Conant. Scott is one of the judges on Food Network's Chopped. Anyway I walked into the restaurant just to look at it and to see the menu. I decided that I might as well ask if chef Conant was in town. To my surprise, he was. I was so excited. He came out and we spoke. Scott was very nice and was really interesting. I really wish I could have went to Scarpetta but the Foodie Finders NYC Crew and I already had reservations every night we were in Las Vegas. On the bright side there is a Scarpetta in New York City and I will definitely be there soon.
So after meeting Scott Conant we headed over to Jean-Phillipe Patisserie. There is a Jean-Phillipe Patisserie in the Bellagio and the Aria.We went to the one in the Aria which is the bigger one. It was so good and here is my review (Remember this goes on the Specialty Food Review page).

Jean-Phillipe Patisserie                 3730 Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89158 (Aria)

Jean-Phillipe Patisserie is one spectacular place. They have everything from fresh made bread and crepes to beautiful little chocolates. I ordered the exotic crepe with vanilla cream and pineapple on top. The whole thing was incredible and it came with a choice of gelato or sorbet. I really thought the crepe itself was delicious. I also got a few chocolates. My favorite was the Gringo chocolate which was blue mountain coffee infused caramel ganache and a dark chocolate coating. Jean-Phillipe Patisserie is a must visit even it is just for a piece of chocolate.

  • Great chocolate
  • Amazing crepes especially the exotic crepe
  • Gelato is delicious

After Jean-Phillipe Patisserie it was time for our dinner reservations at Hubert Keller's Fleur (Used to be called Fleur de Lys but on December 16 it changed to Fleur and the menu is now all small plates). It was so incredible. Here is my review.

Fleur                3930 Las Vegas Blvd South, Las Vegas, NV, 89119 (Mandalay Bay)

WOW! Fleur is one spectacular restaurant. The food was just amazing. There is so much thought and time, which boldly shows, put in every single dish. The menu is small plates so we got a lot of dishes. I am going to list my very favorite which is a hard thing to do. So my favorite dishes were the Truffle Onion Soup, Sliders, Avocado and Crab Sphere in a Watermelon Gazpacho, Skirt Steak - Chimichurri, Lobster Mac & Cheese, Hummus and Babaganoush, and the Maple Glazed Pork Ribs smoked to order. The Maple Glazed Pork Ribs were presented beautifully. It comes to the table in a glass dome filled with smoke. Then the server lifts the dome and the smoke comes up and there is your ribs smoked right in front of you. When you eat it, it has a slight smoky taste and it is delicious. Probably out of all of these the best was the Truffle Onion Soup which came in really cool soup shooters. It was warm and sent a wonderful sensation through your body, finished with the earthy truffle oil and you just sit back in your chair and let out a sigh of relief. For dessert the Cheesecake Lollipops were very good but the Creme Brulee trio and the Panna Cotta was even better. I absolutely loved Fleur and it is at the top of my list to return to.

  • Good Service
  • Atmosphere was very nice and the whole place was just beautiful
  • Recommend:
  1. Truffle Onion Soup
  2. Sliders
  3. Avocado and Crab Sphere in a Watermelon Gazpacho
  4. Skirt Steak - Chimichurri
  5. Lobster Mac & Cheese
  6. Hummus and Babaganoush
  7. Maple Glazed Pork Ribs smoked to order
  • Wouldn't Order Again:
  1. NOTHING

So that concludes my second day in Vegas. There was a lot of good food and I met Scott Conant. Check back soon for more on my foodie field trip to Las Vegas because trust me, there was a lot more great food and amazing chefs that I was fortunate enough to meet. Bon Apetit!
