Street     742 N Highland Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90038

(April 2012-Dinner)

Street is an incredibly fun and lively restaurant. The staff, a beautiful reflection of the lovely Susan Feniger, is so nice and knowledgeable. The concept at Street is about different street foods from all over the world served tapas style. In the Izakaya + Asian Pub Food section I loved the West Sumatra Beef Curry. The flavors were so elaborate and bursting with flavor. The Pea Shoots + Pork Belly with coconut rice and a soft egg was very good. The richness from the egg was a wonderful addiction to the dish. Another great dish was the Edamame Hummus. It came with papadum chips that put together was amazing. In the Meatballs + Fritters section, I enjoyed the Syrian Lamb Meatballs. They had a great subtle gamey taste that was paired amazingly with the date molasses. The Korean BBQ Meatballs were delicious too. They were very flavorful. The Chicken + Waffles Croquettes were a fun and tasty dish. It came with an amazing spicy maple syrup that sealed the deal. In the Classic Street section my mouth still waters when I think back to the Kaya Toast. It was salty and sweet, crunchy and gooey. The dish was a piece of toast with a yummy coconut jam that gets dipped into an egg and dark soy. In the Veggie Sides section I greatly enjoyed the Braised Greens + Chorizo. It was smokey and extremely flavorful. Next up, dessert! The Egyptian Basbousa Cake was scrumptious. It was a light cake with a citrus-y lime curd that was delicious. The Croatian Apple Fritters were outstanding. The fritters were perfect and complimented by the incredible apple butter and whiskey cider sauce. The Thai Tea Creme Caramel was great. The tea taste was perfect and the lime caramel on top was amazing. Street was a wonderful dining experience.

Border Grill          445 S. Figueroa St. Los Angeles, CA 90071

(April 2012-Dinner)

The fun and wacky art work throughout Border Grill transports the diner into another world of amazing Mexican cuisine. Once the food hits the table you never want to leave this paradise. The staff at Border Grill is extremely friendly and everyone is enthusiastic in what they do. The Bar Manager, Jane Park, was a pleasure to speak to and very nice. Mary Sue Milliken was at the restaurant during my visit and was very nice. She gave me some great recommendations on the menu. For the appetizers my favorite was the Plantain Empanadas in which the dough was made out of plantains. Mary Sue said that the inspiration for this was a pie with the pie dough made with plantains. The plantain empanadas were filled with black beans, poblanos, and cotija cheese. These empanadas were delicious. Another great appetizer was the Green Corn Tamale. It was so good. I also had the Quinoa Fritters. The fried up beauties were made even better with the garlic aioli. The Border Guacamole was amazing. The avocados were of perfect ripeness and it was complemented with simple ingredients and nothing over the top. The Ceviche Trio was great because it had all three amazing ceviches at Border Grill. They serve the peruvian ceviche, tiradito verde, and baja ceviche. The peruvian ceviche was very flavorful and very good. The tiradito ceviche was refreshing and light. The baja ceviche was nice and bold in flavor with a wonderful bite from the shrimp mixed in. Before I talk about entrees I must say that Border Grill makes their own tortillas, corn and flour. They were both incredible. My favorite entree was the Carnitas. This dish consisted of pork, roasted corn grits, black bean huitlacoche salsa, and chipotle glazed bacon. The corn grits were incredible with the smooth grits and the added texture of the pieces of corn inside. The chipotle glazed bacon was outrageous. Another yummy entree was the Pescado Veracruzano. This was a pan seared sustainable fish, which was Mahi Mahi that night, in a great white wine garlic broth. The Grilled Skirt Steak was delicious. I loved the charred corn that came with it. The Fava Bean Amaranth Fritters were great. The fritters came with some lovely greens including amaranth, which is like spinach, but sweeter. For dessert my favorite was the Churro Tots. The churros were delicious and it came with great chocolate and caramel dipping sauces. Another scrumptious dessert was the Banana Cream Pie. The whole dish had a wonderfully rich caramel and rum flavor to it. The Zesty Lime Tart was yummy too. The citrus and tartness was perfect. The Lemon Cheesecake was very good with a very powerful lemon taste. The Espresso Kahlua Flan had an intense coffee flavor that was great. The Coconut Tres Leches was moist and delicious. Border Grill was an amazing dining experience that is a must-try in Los Angeles.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams               Multiple locations in Ohio and Tennessee, retail partners all over the United States

(February 2012)

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is a great ice cream shop with some unique and delicious flavors. I was able to try every flavor thanks to the incredible and friendly staff. Of their selection my favorites were Bangkok Peanut, Brambleberry Crisp, Black Coffee, Queen City Cayenne, and Riesling Poached Pear Sorbet. The Bangkok Peanut is a spicy peanut ice cream with honey, coconut, and cayenne. The Brambleberry Crisp is a sweet blackberry and black raspberry jam swirled in a yummy vanilla ice cream with streusel throughout (This and the Bangkok Peanut are a great combo for a PB&J type of flavor). The black coffee is the best coffee ice cream I have ever had. The coffee taste is so prominent and so good. The Queen City Cayenne is a milk chocolate ice cream with a kick. The spicy flavor is enough to keep that wonderful burning feeling in your throat and make you quickly go in for more. The Riesling Poached Pear Sorbet is a pear-y wonderland that is so refreshing. Jeni's Ice Cream is great so head on over for some amazing frozen treats.

Pittsburgh, PA

Lidia's Italy Pittsburgh                   1400 Smallman St., Pitttsburgh, PA, 15222

(Dinner)
Beautiful. In every category, Lidia's Italy Pittsburgh is absolutely beautiful. The decor and layout is very modern and beautiful. The service is very good. And most important of all the food is beautiful. Everything is delicious. The bread that they serve is still warm when it hits the table and comes with two scrumptious bean spreads. One was with olives and the other was with basil. For the main course they had a pasta trio (just like Becco, also owned by Lidia Bastianich) which was very good. Another pasta dish on the menu but not a part of the pasta trio which is delicious is the gnocchi with a duck ragu. One more scrumptious dish is pan seared calamari. it had a lot of flavor and was very good. For dessert everything was so good. The donuts with nutella cream are the best donuts I have ever eaten. The chocolate torta is good with a very interesting texture and flavor. The pear crustada was also very good. When you are in town Lidia's Italy Pittsburgh is the place to go.

Pamela's  P & G Diner                    60 21st St., Pittsburgh, PA, 15222
(Breakfast)
One of the best breakfast restaurants in town has to be Pamela's P & G Diner. The best delicacy on the menu is the hot cakes. The hotcakes are like crepes and there is a variety of fillings. My personal favorite is the blueberry but I thought the strawberry was good as well. Besides the hotcakes there was a Tex Mex omelet which was delicious and filled with chorizo and cheese. The service was good and the food came out fast. The setting is nice and is a place to absolutely return to when in Pittsburgh.

DeLuca's                                                        2015 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, PA, 15222
(Breakfast)
Depending on what you order this place goes from average to excellent. The pumpkin pancakes are incredible. They are full of flavor and are addicting. They have decent buttermilk pancakes but they just didn't stand out.  All of their meats, like bacon, sausage and chorizo, were really delicious. The food was very good and is definitely a place I would return too.

Primanti Bros.                     46 18th St., Pittsburgh, PA, 15222

(Dinner)
Sandwiches are just okay at Primanti Bros. There isn't much flavor to the sandwiches. Some of the sandwiches we got were sausage, pastrami, and cheese steak. Probably the best one was the sausage. There are fries that are on the sandwich that were pretty good though. it was like a bar-like atmosphere and the service was hurried. Primanti Bros. would not be a first choice when eating out in Pittsburgh.

Hershey. PA

Hershey Pantry                             801 E Chocolate Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033

(Lunch)

One visit to the Hershey Pantry and you will be hooked for life. Everything you order is delicious. We got to amazing sandwiches which were the Pantry Reuben Corn Beef and the Grilled Ham & American Cheese. The Pantry Reuben Corn Beef had the best sauce and the sandwich also had sauerkraut an swiss cheese which was yummy.  The Grilled Ham & American Cheese was also really good. It was delicious ham with a mild and gooey cheese sandwiched between two pretzel rolls which are dynamite. If have never had a Hershey Pantry pretzel roll, you have never lived. Also the burger is really good but if you switch the buns to pretzel rolls it is even better. The Hershey Pantry also has delicious muffins. Normally they fill their muffins with a cream cheese filling that is really good. If you don't like cream cheese sometimes they have muffins that are too warm to fill yet. We got a few with cream cheese and a few without. The best flavors, I think, were cherry, blueberry and candy cane. If you are ever in Hershey you got to go to the Hershey Pantry if it is for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Whichever meal you have you won't be sorry.

Las Vegas, NV

Burger Bar          3930 Las Vegas Blvd South, Las Vegas, NV, 89119 (Mandalay Bay)

(Lunch)
If you are looking for the BEST burger place in the world, do your taste buds a favor and head over to chef Hubert Keller's Burger Bar. At Burger Bar you can either create your own burger or order a burger of the menu. I made my own burger and I highly recommend to make your own burger. You chose your meat, your bun and your toppings. The possibilities are endless with toppings from chopped jalapeno and fried eggs to 1/3 oz. of shaved black truffle and pan-seared foie gras. Also the sweet potato fries are super good. The onion rings and the beer battered pickles are good too. I got chipotle aioli on the side with my burger and I loved dipping my sweet potato fries in it. No matter what burger you get you will love it because the burgers are just so good itself. Also the milkshakes are amazing. My personal favorite would be the Nutella. If your in Vegas, Burger Bar is great for lunch, dinner or just for a quick burger to get you through the day.

Table 10                    3327 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Las Vegas, NV, 89109 (The Palazzo)

(Dinner)
Not my first choice to eat in Las Vegas. Table 10, in my opinion, was not very good because of the service and the food was just not fresh. It was all just okay. Appetizers included the Cilantro & Chorizo Sausage Pizza, Cornmeal Fried Alaskan Dover Sole Taco, and we got a side of Truffle Mac-n-Cheese that we shared for the table. For entrees there were no stand outs. I got the Pancetta wrapped Rosemary Skewered Baja Shrimp. I found that it wasn't very good and also hard to eat off the rosemary skewer. The rest of my party felt the same.  I really would not recommend Table 10.  If you are looking for a Emeril Lagasse restaurant, all I could say is try a different one. I hope that my next Emeril Lagasse experience will be enough to make me forget about this one.

Fleur                3930 Las Vegas Blvd South, Las Vegas, NV, 89119 (Mandalay Bay)

(Dinner)
WOW! Fleur is one spectacular restaurant. The food was just amazing. There is so much thought and time, which boldly shows, put in every single dish. The menu is small plates so we got a lot of dishes. I am going to list my very favorite which is a hard thing to do. So my favorite dishes were the Truffle Onion Soup, Sliders, Avocado and Crab Sphere in a Watermelon Gazpacho, Skirt Steak - Chimichurri, Lobster Mac & Cheese, Hummus and Babaganoush, and the Maple Glazed Pork Ribs smoked to order. The Maple Glazed Pork Ribs were presented beautifully. It comes to the table in a glass dome filled with smoke. Then the server lifts the dome and the smoke comes up and there is your ribs smoked right in front of you. When you eat it, it has a slight smoky taste and it is delicious. Probably out of all of these the best was the Truffle Onion Soup which came in really cool soup shooters. It was warm and sent a wonderful sensation through your body, finished with the earthy truffle oil and you just sit back in your chair and let out a sigh of relief. For dessert the Cheesecake Lollipops were very good but the Creme Brulee trio and the Panna Cotta was even better. I absolutely loved Fleur and it is at the top of my list to return to.

Mesa Grill           3570 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89109 (Caesars Palace)

(Brunch)
Mesa Grill really serves a delicious brunch. I loved the whole restaurant. I liked the Brunch appetizer, which was a crispy bacon and hash brown quesadilla with a fried egg and tomato salsa. For Brunch entrees I had two favorites. One was the spicy chicken and sweet potato hash with a poached egg and a green chile hollandaise. My other favorite dish was the scrambled eggs chilaquiles with roasted tomatillo sauce, white cheddar cheese and creme fraiche. On the side we got mango bacon which was okay and we got grits that were good. The service was fine and I really love the whole southwestern cuisine. This restaurant is worth the visit.

RM Seafood            3930 Las Vegas Blvd South, Las Vegas, NV, 89119 (Mandalay Bay)

(Dinner)
The best seafood ever! The sushi was out of this world and the seafood was so fresh. RM Seafood cannot be skipped when your in Las Vegas. My favorite dish was Rick’s Famous Fish 'N' Chips. I thought it was all just so good. The the potato wedges were delicious and the fish was cooked perfectly. I also did like the RM Style "Cioppino" which had calamarata, mussels, clams, king crab, and shrimp. Another good dish was Lobster Bolognese with bucatini, lobster oil, and shaved parmesan. Also I ordered the Top Chef Masters “Moon” Doggies which is shrimp corn dogs, cole slaw, and cilantro mayo. I thought they were okay. The service was good and the entire restaurant was beautiful. Border Grill     3950 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89119 (Mandalay Bay)

(Dinner)
Great times 10. Border Grill is just a flat out great restaurant. Great service, spectacular food, huge portions and they are reasonably priced (recommend sharing with someone). I enjoyed the decor as well. It all fit right but of course the star of the show was the food. The start off the chips and salsa is very good. Then, as you move on to appetizers the Guacamole was yummy and the Queso Fundido was so good. Also for appetizers the Guajillo Pork Tamales was scrumptious as well as the Green Corn Tamales. Moving on to the main dishes my two dishes I loved were the Negro Modelo Braised Short Ribs and the Yucatan Pork. My favorite had to be the Short Ribs though. It was cooked to perfection and it was on top of polenta. So good. For dessert, Border Grill does this genius thing, where on their menu you could just order a dessert or you can do a dessert assortment of your choice of either 2 half slices or 4 half slices. The dishes we got on the assortment of 4 half slices were all so delicious. They were the Mexican Chocolate Cream Pie, Tres Leches, Pineapple Upsidedown Cake, and the special that night which was Tres Leches again but filled with cooked down blueberries. My favorite had to be the special. I am definitely going back to Border Grill and I highly recommend it.

Spago     3500 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89109 (The Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace)

(Dinner)
Spago is definitely one to consider when eating out in Las Vegas. The decor was very nice. There was "outdoor" seating if you consider the Forum Shops at Caesar's Palace outside. The service was good too and the food was delicious. I enjoyed the bread that they served with their herb infused olive oil. The meatloaf I thought was good but way to salty and very heavy. On the other hand I did like the barbecue chicken pizza and the bolognese. I really recommend Spago.

  • Good service
  • Nice decor
  • Great Food

Pink's Hot Dogs           3667 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV, 89109 (Planet Hollywood)

The most amazing hot dog you will ever have. At Pink's Hot Dogs even if you forget about all the great toppings, the hot dog itself is just so delicious. It makes my mouth water just to think about it. I ordered a chili and cheese dog. It was really delicious and the chili was very good. It was a little messy but I love that about a chili dog when you pick it up and the chili just comes out the sides and peeks over the top. Pink's Hot Dogs is must go to if you are in Las Vegas.

  • Location is very convenient since it is right on the strip and you don't have to walk a mile through a gigantic hotel
  • Amazing hot dogs
  • Recommend:
  1. Chili Cheese Dog

Jean-Phillipe Patisserie                 3730 Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas, Nevada, 89158 (Aria)

Jean-Phillipe Patisserie is one spectacular place. They have everything from fresh made bread and crepes to beautiful little chocolates. I ordered the exotic crepe with vanilla cream and pineapple on top. The whole thing was incredible and it came with a choice of gelato or sorbet. I really thought the crepe itself was delicious. I also got a few chocolates. My favorite was the Gringo chocolate which was blue mountain coffee infused caramel ganache and a dark chocolate coating. Jean-Phillipe Patisserie is a must visit even it is just for a piece of chocolate.

  • Great chocolate
  • Amazing crepes especially the exotic crepe
  • Gelato is delicious

Serendipity 3          3570 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89109 (Caesar's Palace)

If your passing by Caesar's, you can't pass up Serendipity 3's Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. It is so luscious and decadent and you feel so at home. And than it pulls one over on your taste buds because it is frozen. Hot chocolate is not supposed to be cold and like a slushy. You wait for a second while your brain files that Hot Chocolate can be frozen and than you suck down the whole thing. It is such a refreshing and interesting drink. You just have to go to Serendipity 3.

  • The best Frrrozen Hot Chocolate
  • This drink will leave you in awe
